Motorists can fix a “deformed” windscreen wiper blade in seconds using a common household hack, according to a TikTok expert.

Damaged windscreen wipers may no longer stick properly to the glass screen which could cause a series of problems for petrol and diesel road users this Autumn and Winter.

As well as making an annoying sound as the blade rattles against the glass, incorrectly fitting windscreen wipers could make it harder to clear away rain and spray.

This could run the risk of reducing visibility and leaving road users at risk of not identifying road hazards and other obstacles.

The average cost of replacing a windscreen wiper can vary from around £100 to £300 in a major dent for cash-strapped individuals.

However, a social media influencer has warned a simple homemade hack may just do the trick.

TikTok user @master_driver666 explained: “When the wiper is working there is a squeaking sound. Be careful when you encounter this situation. If you go to a repair shop they will ask you to replace the wiper blade. Or even replace the entire wiper arm.

“How much do you think this will cost? Today I will teach you a free method.

“First we take off the wiper blade. Look there is a black spot here. Lets press it and gently pull it and the wiper blade will come off.

“Then comes the key point. We gently place this wiper rod on the windshield. Look there is a gap between it and the windshield. It is deformed.”

The TikTok influencer stresses that one side of the windscreen is “warped” which is “abnormal” and needs fixing.

However, a common tool found in most toolboxes could remedy the situation in just seconds, saving motorists a trip to the garage.

They added: “This is why the wiper can’t clean the glass and there is a strange noise. This situation is easy to deal with. Let's take a screwdriver and insert it and bend it. Now the wiper rod fits the windshield perfectly.

Experts at D Wells Automotive admitted that wiper blades can be fixed with a “pair of pliers”.

However, they reiterated that a trip to a specialist was still advised if motorists were concerned.

They commented: “If your wipers are obnoxiously rattling when you're trying to use them, then you're likely to get distracted.

“Loud and squeaky windshield wipers can be caused by filthy blades, a bent wiper arm, or old wipers that need replacement.

“Warped wiper blades aren't able to come in contact with the windshield, causing the clashing. To fix the issue, you can use a pair of pliers to twist the arm back into proper form or have a professional technician take a look!”
